Chapter Twelve

Austin inspected his back, again, as he dressed for work Monday morning. The redness and swelling was gone, but he still had a few bruises from the flogging Wolf gave him on Friday night. Small dark spots and a few that were an inch or two long were no longer the blueish-purple of a fresh bruise. They weren’t the faded yellowish-green yet, either. All of the soreness in his back was gone as well.

It’ll return soon enough when we play this weekend, Austin thought with a grin as he clipped his sidearm and badge to his belt. He couldn’t stop smiling at the thought.

Austin’s smile was still wide when he stepped into the office he shared with Wolf. One glance at his partner was enough to see that playing on Friday hadn’t helped relax him any. Austin ignored the glare Wolf shot in his direction and proceeded to boot up his computer. Once he was logged in, he opened up his personal email account.

Maybe this will brighten his day. Austin smirked while he composed the email.

Lukas wasn’t sure what pissed him off more: Kinsley’s happy, smiling face, his blatant ignoring of him, or his silence. Why the man’s lack of a morning greeting sparked Lukas’ anger, he wasn’t sure, but it did.

Lukas pulled his gaze away from Kinsley’s smirking face when his phone dinged to let him know he had a personal email. A tap opened it, and a small smile spread his lips when he saw the sender’s name.
